Tortillas.

Have you EVER made homemade tortillas?! It might take three tries, friends but I have a sweet and simple recipe for you. While Marc and I have tried supporting our local businesses, cooking is our best friend lately and we've enjoyed trying new recipes and spending time in the kitchen together. This year, there was a little magic thrown our way when Cinco De Mayo and Taco Tuesday fell on the same day. How did we celebrate? By making our own tortillas from SCRATCH.And they were DELICIOUS! Instead of writing more details about the day, here is the recipe for you. YUP RN! (pictures to come soon).

Ingredients:

2 Cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup water

3 tablespoons of avocado oil (or olive oil)

How-to:

In a large bowl combine salt and flour (HINT: Make sure the salt is evenly mixed in- we messed this part up on try #2). Mix in your water and oil. Make sure all ingredients are thoroughly mixed, but don’t over mix/over handle the dough. Turn dough onto a floured surface (PRO TIP: granite countertops work GREAT). Knead the dough 10-12 times, add flour and water if needed to make sure the dough is smooth. Let your dough rest for 10 minutes, then divide it into 8-10 portions (if you have a scale handy, we recommend weighing each portion to approximately 45-55 grams). Then flatten each portion with a pot/pan and roll out into a 7inch circle.

In a greased (avocado oil works great) skillet, cook tortilas over medium heat. each side takes approximately 45 sec-1 minute. (PRO TIP: we recommend preheating the skillet). Keep an eye on these so they don’t burn!

PRO-TIP: This is a fun recipe to do with a loved one and having one person cooking the tortillas while the other rolls each one out works perfectly for us!
